Lansdale, PA: On Monday, May 11th, 2020, Schär USA Inc. of Swedesboro, NJ delivered a donation of over $50,000 in gluten-free food to help Garden of Health Inc. Food Bank of Souderton, PA continue serving the food-insecure population. Over the next few weeks, Garden of Health and the National Celiac Association are teaming up to distribute across the state and east coast – specifically for families and individuals with celiac disease and other dietary restrictions – an underserved population at food pantries.

As the food insecure population grows due to COVID-19, many people with food allergies are not getting the medically necessary food they need from food pantries. Many are turned away or given a generic bag of goods, which may not be safe for them to eat. That’s where Garden of Health Inc. steps in. Founded in 2015, the food bank provides gluten-free, allergen-friendly foods and fresh produce to over 25 food pantries in Bucks and Montgomery county.

“Food pantries just can’t keep up with the need for allergen-friendly foods due to the pandemic,” says, Carol Bauer, founder. “We are so thankful for the donation from Schär, which will help feed thousands of families who can’t afford these foods right now,” she continues.

The donation also represents the strength of our community coming together in times of crisis. “From the National Celiac Association connecting us with Schär, to the gift of storage space by the Lansdale Business Center, this donation was a collaboration of organizations coming together to help others,” Carol comments. The Lansdale Business Center is allowing Garden of Health Inc. to store the donation at their facility free of charge.

Garden of Health Inc. is now serving over 70 families and individuals that have applied for assistance through their website, in addition to their existing food pantry clients. “As I say, your wealth should not dictate your health. Many people who have fallen on hard times have food allergies. We are here to provide safe food.” Carol continues.
