"We are excited for our upcoming Healthy Meals 4 All 5K to get the community involved in our mission. All the money we raise will go directly to purchasing healthy, safe food for our community in need," said Carol Bauer, Founder and Executive Director, Garden of Health Inc. Food Bank.
The event consists of a 5K race, a 1-mile walk and the community is also welcome to come and cheer on the participants.
“Your donation will help feed families and individuals in our local community,” continued Carol.
Garden of Health has been around since 2015 with dedicated volunteers who grow, donate and deliver healthy foods to food pantries in coordination with a network of participating local farms and wholesale distributors. In addition, through community gardens, they teach in-demand gardening skills to low-income individuals that prepare them for employment, enhance food security and promote financial independence.
At the core of their services, the Food Bank distributes fresh produce and allergen-friendly food to over 30 food pantries, low-income senior housing, and community groups in Montgomery and Bucks Counties in Pennsylvania.
Providing education on what foods are allergen-friendly and how to ensure they are getting to the people who need them most, is part of the program. They help sort and set up a dedicated space for allergen-friendly foods so volunteers and staff can maintain proper distribution through this education.
In 2019 they broke ground on the Garden of Hope, a one-acre farm located in Harleysville, PA. All produce is harvested by volunteers and distributed to food pantries and community programs for those in need. Seasonal vegetables are planted from spring through fall. In 2020 they distributed an astonishing 200,000 pounds of produce.
Fundraisers like the Healthy Meals for All 5K allow Garden of Health to continue their robust programming – providing healthy, safe food for those in need.
